HOW TO MOVE AND STACK CHAIRS?

OBJECTIVE

Moving of equipment safely

POLICY

The moving of equipment such as tables & chairs is very much an everyday occurrence in the banquets department. This is why we make sure that to the best of our ability we are trained to move the equipment the best way possible, without putting guests or ourselves in any danger. We also need to maintain the condition of the equipment of the venue & surroundings.

PROCEDURE

Stacking chair

Chairs need to be stacked no more than ten high when using trolley. Chairs need to be locked in to each other and should be stacked straight to prevent them from toppling over.

Ensure that you only carry one chair at a time and that your back is straight

When stacking the chairs on top of each other makes sure your fingers are at the sides of the chair and not underneath.

Moving chairs

Use the chair trolley. This will minimize the amount of Manual handling. Push it under the stack of chairs from behind & with two hands & one foot placed firmly on the trolley pull down slowly.

Move slow & steady

Make sure you are watching your surroundings & other people. If you aren’t watching where you are going you could trip over or run into someone. So before moving the trolley makes sure there is a clear path to your destination

Lifting chair

When lifting down the chairs ensure you only lift one at a time & follow correct manual handling techniques.

Remember

Always remember to follow correct manual handling techniques

Bend at the knees

Keep your back straight

Ask for help if you need it
