HOW TO SERVE CIGAR?

OBJECTIVE

That the cigar is served in a timely and professional manner by knowledgeable employee.


POLICY

Cigar smoking is an experience – it is exactly for this reason that we need to ensure that all the correct steps are followed to enhance our guests smoking pleasure.

To allow the sequence of service to run smoothly and without delay.


PROCEDURE

Preparing a cigar humidor

Ensure the cigar humidor is clean and in good condition.

Visual check of texture and color.

Cigar is not discolored

When place next to the ear and roll it should not crinkle.

One cigar Cuter, one cigar Lighter are always go with the Humidor, working and well-polished.

The list of cigar selection

Presenting the cigar humidor

Hold the cigar Humidor box to the guest for his/her selecting. To ensure the guest can see all cigars thorough the humidor glass cover.

Present the cigar humidor in the vision of the guest and say: “Would you like to order a Cigar sir/Mr/Ms.”

Remove the selected cigar from the humidor

Hold the cigar between thumb and index finger

Lift out of display, handle with care

Avoid excessive hand contact with the cigar(Guest can pick up the cigar his/her self)

Place all equipment required

Cigar ashtray is placed on the table at the most convenient position for the guest.

The cutter and lighter must be available.

Cut the cigar

Offering to cut the cigar by saying: “May cut the cigar for you”? if yes go next step.

Pick up the cigar with your left hand, the cuter on right.

Place the cuter at the end of the cigar. before cutting the cigar, verify the cut with guest by showing guest the position of cutter on the cigar by asking: “would you like a small cut or medium cut”?

Place debris from cut to an ashtray.

Light the cigar

Hold the cigar with your left hand, the lighter or cedar matches on right.

Light the cigar by lighter, ensure to rotate the cigar to get an even burn.

Moving the cigar from left to right and again, right to the left in four rounds.

Present the cigar to the guest

Say: “Enjoy your cigar sir”

Offering Armagnac/cognac. If no follow the next step.

Leaving the table in a quiet way then only observe incase the guest have another request.

Up-selling on Single malt whiskey/Cognac

After cigar has been presented, the Single malt whiskey/cognac should be up-selling.

Say:” Would you like to have Single malt whiskey or Cognac with your cigar sir”?
